Troupe Theatre company in association with Daphne Kuhn presents
ALBIE SACHS, FATHERS, SONS, AND SOFT VENGEANCE

written by Gail Louw
Starring Graham Hopkins
and directed by Fiona Ramsay

A significant new play awaits to be staged at Theatre on The Square on the public and private life of revered South African activist, lawyer and constitutional judge, Albie Sachs.

Told with warmth and humanity, the story explores family, resilience and forgiveness – and asks what soft vengeance means in a world still learning how to heal.

Thought provoking, accessible and deeply relevant, this theatre speaks powerfully to South Africa today. The play is his account of an idealistic youth, wounded survivor, devoted father and philosophical elder. The play is a poetic slice of biography and as it does not simply recount facts but is told in Albie’s voice recounting experiences of being a son, a father and an activist.

Albie is an inspiring figure who overcame great odds – and the audience should leave, not just with knowledge, but feeing transformed by the experience.
