3rd – 21st May
the sequel to the hugely successful and uniquely South African comedy, From Koe’siestes to Kneidlach
FROM KOE’SIESTES TO KNEIDLACH… WITH KIDS
3rd – 21st May
Starring Chantal Stanfield
Following the success of its debut production at Theatre on the Square, Chantal Stanfield once again teams up with director Megan Choritz to bring the sequel to the hugely successful and uniquely South African comedy, From Koe’siestes to Kneidlach…. with Kids. This hilarious kosher comedy follows the bizarre, funny and true story of what happens when a girl from the Cape Flats falls in love with a Jew-ish boy from Joburg’s East Rand. The new show picks up a few years after the mixed-race-mixed-everything- happy couple get married and ride off into the shabbat sunset. Now there’s a “beige” baby on the way with a myriad of cultural, religious and familial issues to navigate. Join us for this perfect entertainment as Stanfield reminisces, in her inimitable way, on love, life and cultural biases.
24th May – 11th June
Two brilliant new works by internationally acknowledged and award-winning SA playwright, Mike van Graan
THE NEW ABNORMAL and COUNTRY DUTY
Two brilliant new works by internationally acknowledged and award-winning SA playwright, Mike van Graan, will be presented as a double bill, featuring actors, Khutjo Green and Nhlanhla Shabangu. Mike van Graan’s satirical works have thrilled audiences at Theatre on the Square over the years such as his Pay Back the Curry, State Fracture, Land Acts and the contemporary drama, Green Man Flashing.
Nhlanhla Shabangu will feature in The New Abnormal, using the Covid 19 pandemic as a springboard for social commentary in a stand-up format.
Well known actor and director, Khutjo Green will play the role of Boitumelo Mgenge in Country Duty. This features the trials and tribulations of a whistleblower character, which, with the Zondo Commission into State Capture, is a very topical theme right now!
A double act to delight and provoke!
AFRICA SOUL is a first for South Africa. Their music is pure soul and blues, taking songs from the 1950’s/1960’s era of Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding and other music icons and giving those ‘old’ classics a ‘young’ rebirth. Most importantly and uniquely, re-working those well-known classics with African harmonies and lyrics, and in such a way, bringing songs from a bygone era to today’s audience of both an older and younger generation, to either reminisce about, or to hear for the first time. Songs from the American South, to South Africa.
AFRICA SOUL comprises current Soweto Gospel Choir members but is a separate entity with a different sound and feel. Musical direction/production falls under the multi-talented Adam Howard and was founded by Beverly Bryer and Adam Howard in January 2020.
A new group for a new decade!

a new musical that honours Enoch Mankayi Sontonga - South African composer best known for writing the song “Nkosi Sikelela iAfrika”
NALITHEMBA presents "SIKELELA: a musical opera for Enoch Sontonga", a new musical that honours Enoch Mankayi Sontonga, an obscure South African composer best known for writing the song “Nkosi Sikelela iAfrika” (“god bless Africa”). Although the citizens of South Africa proudly sing the song, the majority is unaware of the story behind its inclusion in the national anthem. We have a duty to offer better recognition to the author of a deep prayer that exists within an iconic hymn written to bless the teary soul of the African heart - so effectively it was that neighbouring nations began sang it.
The show fuses sign language with sound to create heightened visuals and encourage inclusivity.
